On a chilly day on the Scarlet course at The Ohio State University Golf Club, Cincinnati Moeller won its first boys golf state title Saturday afternoon at the 2014 OHSAA Division I boys golf state tournament.
After 16 previous state tournament appearances, including two state runner-up finishes in 2004 & 2007, the Crusaders could finally call themselves champions.
Moeller led the field after day one with an impressive 312, eight shots ahead of Upper Arlington, which fell to third after day two (320-325-645). Columbus St. Charles (324-321-645) shot three better than Moeller on day two, but Moeller’s 324 was enough to secure its first state championship with a team total of 636. St. Charles finished second and Upper Arlington finished third after tie-breaking procedures.
Moeller junior Ben Sattler led the team with a 76-78-154.
Toledo St. John’s Jesuit senior Jack Mancinotti earned medalist honors with a 71-74-145. Mancinotti is the first medalist from St. John’s since 1996 when Jamie Spencer won the honors.
